Mark 7 Golf 1.6 tdi (105ps) cam belts - skidpan. There is confusion at Seat, Skoda and VW about the new engines in the Leon, Octavia and Golf (no idea about the A3). Different garages are quoting different intervals, some brochures say the belt will last the life of the car, others don't. The current common line appears to be an inspection at 5
You and I share very similar thinking on that. I doubt very much that VW would set the service interval to be anywhere more than 70% of the average lifespan in their own testing, and is much more likely to be closer to 50% given the high mileage numbers they're dealing with (there's a lot of variation in the amount of abuse that happens in 10 years/130k miles).

There was alot of discussion on here a few years back as Skoda dealers were advising 40.000miles/ 4 years for the AUQ when VW were stating 60.00miles/5years for the same engine. When I questioned my local Skoda dealer about this at the time they claimed that due to water pump impellor failure they were advising a reduced interval.
Below is an overview of the timing belt replacement intervals since 1996. If you don't know which engine your car has, you can enter the license plate number below. Petrol variants produced between 1996 and 2005 Skoda Octavia 1.6 i 55, 74 and 75 kW = 120 000 Kilometres or after a maximum of 5 years. (no uniform interval indicated.
The list only gives the mileage intervals as per the factory info when I put the list together. The time interval according to Skoda UK is 4 or 5 years depending on when your car was made - 5 years I think for your car with it being a 2012 car.
Broken timing belt. Check the timing belt tensioner before buying a Mk1 Fabia because this component often breaks earlier than expected, especially in the 1.4 petrol engine. What repair is needed for a broken timing belt, and how much does it cost for a Skoda Fabia? Once your timing belt has broken, you’ll have to replace it.
the issue isn't really that the belt won't do 80k - it might or might not, but highly unlikely the rollers and tensioner etc will all survive for that long. I'm sure that the change interval is 4 years or 60,000 miles whichever is sooner. VAG standardised on this some years ago.

CAM / Timing Belt question. First time poster here. My Q2 has approached it's 5th birthday and been told it requires a Cam belt change. Official Audi were quoting £650 isa. An indie Audi specialist quoted £420. However, another non Audi indie asked what milage it currently is at. I stated 23,000 miles on the clock - I do very little milage.
I paid £12. There are two locking devices in the kit for the crankshaft but each is different and you only use one of them. For the camshaft sprocket, I found the ball ended pin a bit too tight but a 5mm drill bit did nicely. The tensioner i just locked with an Allen key. So in reality I only actually used one bit out of the kit.
