The 5.3 and 5.7 Hemi engines are popular options for those looking for a powerful engine, but which is better? It depends on the type of vehicle and the desired performance level. The 5.3 Hemi is a great option for those looking for a reliable engine with good fuel economy.
Replacing the massive iron drive shaft with a lightweight aluminum one is a good idea. The engine will send more power to the rear wheels, resulting in higher torque and power. Reset The ECU: The 5.7 Hemi engine is electronic and is controlled by an ECU. The electronic control unit, like all other computer systems, has inherent limitations.
Problem 2: Damaged Lifter. It is easy for your camshaft lifter roller on your 5.7 Hemi engine to get damaged. Beyond the general wear and tear, and as we will discuss further below, the 5.7 Hemi engine has a possible design flaw that may be responsible for damaged camshafts and lifters. The Lion’s share of problems that the 5.7 Hemi engine users have complained about is cam and lifter failure. It happens when a stall occurs during inactivity or stopping or if the engine seizes up unexpectedly. Even amongst the users who complained about this failure, the degree of the failure differs.
Meaning the car itself is the weakness it is not capable of handling but so much increased power, IE:, bottom end of the engine for a high boost Super Charger, the transmission, the rear end, the brakes, etc, etc, etc. The whole 5.7L R/T Challenger release package not specifically the 5.7L HEMI engine by itself.

Engine. HEMI 6.4. I have a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7 hemi. The truck has 75K miles and throws the infamous P0305 code. Take it do my mechanic changes coil and plugs and doesn't work. I take to dealer to diagnose and can't determine what it is. I inform them of the info i find in here. it's a camshaft.
Looks like it is another $1400 to upgrade to the 6.4L Hemi with 3.73 gears and yes, the 6.4 uses 87 octane while the 5.7 is rated for 89 octane. However, the 6.4L only increases the GVWR by 1,000 pounds and does not increase the payload so I am not sure the trade off is worth it. 01-21-2015, 07:16 PM. # 10.

With the cruise on 57mph, I'm back to getting 20.0 mpg. :rck: After I installed the 2" level lift and bigger tires, I blamed my loss of mpg on that
5.7 Hemi Reliability. I've had my '04 for over 10 years and I love the new models but want to know how reliable they are. My car was a rock, never any problems, just reliable for 144k miles. I know someone moving over seas and can't take their car and offering me a deal I'd be an idiot to not consider.
